European Club Association’s (ECA) commitment to advancing women’s football has reached an important milestone with the announcement of significantly increased Club Benefits Programme distributions for clubs whose players are selected for their national teams in the upcoming UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.
The tournament will feature a €9 million club benefits package – up from the original €6 million agreed for the 2025 showcase – following a proposal from ECA to increase financial distributions to clubs for the release of their players for national team competitions.
This is a clear demonstration of ECA’s ongoing focus on the growth of women’s football and the mutually important partnership between the club game and the national team game in driving the sport forward.
Clubs at the Heart of Football
ECA has worked closely with UEFA to expand the Club Benefits Programme, ensuring clubs are fairly rewarded for releasing their players to national teams for this summer’s tournament in Switzerland. This reflects the vital role clubs play in developing elite talent – investing in players’ training, health and high performance.
Club Benefits Programme funding for Women’s EURO 2022 totalled €4.5 million and will double to €9 million for the 2025 competition in a move that further highlights the importance of creating a model where clubs and national teams work together to grow the game.
Laying the Groundwork for the Future
The record benefits package is a turning point – not just in financial terms, but in the evolution of the women’s professional game.
As UEFA commits €1 billion to women’s football development through to 2030, ECA’s successful push for enhanced club benefits reinforces ECA’s position as a leading voice in women’s football.
It also continues to advocate for the clubs that drive progress on and off the pitch – from developing players to building the professional infrastructure the game needs to thrive.
