Members of the ECA Women's Football Committee Task Force meet in Cardiff

The ECA Women's Football Committee Task Force (WFC Task Force) gathered today in Cardiff, Wales following the UEFA Women's Champions League final. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the most recent and salient developments related to the women's game at an international level.

The ECA Women's Football Committee was created in May 2013 in order to strengthen the importance of clubs in response to the growing interest in the sport. The WFC Members share expertise and knowledge in order to promote Women's Football and aim at establishing a dialogue with relevant stakeholders.

In attendance were representatives from the following clubs: Paris Saint-Germain FÚminines, Manchester City Women FC, Elitfotboll Dam, SFK Sarajevo, Birkirkara FC, and UEFA Women's Champions League winners Olympique Lyonnais.

Discussions at the meeting focused on recent activities by FIFA and UEFA with relation to the future direction of women's football and its direct effect on club football and the international match calendar. 

There were also discussions with regards to UEFA's marketing campaign towards the National Associations, 'Together #WePlayStrong', which was launched in accordance with the UEFA Women's Champions League Final. The campaign seeks to 'make football the number one sport for women in every European country' by increasing participation, visibility and engagement in wome's football.

Regarding the Task Force meeting, ECA WFC Vice-Chairwoman Linda Wijkstr÷m said:

"We believe it is important to convey the message that the clubs are key to developing the women's game, since women's football is not only about big tournaments from time to time, but daily operations."

As an initiative to bring clubs together, an ECA Women's Club Workshop will be set up in Florence on 21 - 22 November 2017. ECA Member Clubs will receive an invitation to the event in the near future.
