ECA Awards

The ECA Awards were first introduced in 2010 with the aim of rewarding outstanding club performances, encouraging best practice, highlighting successful club management and strengthening relationships between ECA Member Clubs.

ECA created four different award categories:

  • European Club of the Year
  • Best Progress (sporting)
  • Best Achievement (non-sporting)
  • Best Community & Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme


The winners of the ECA Awards are every year announced on the occasion of the ECA General Assembly in September.


European Club of the Year

The European Club of the Year Award is awarded to a member club, which has achieved outstanding results during a given season on European level but also in domestic competitions.

2011: FC Barcelona (ESP)
2010: FC Internazionale Milano (ITA)


Best Progress (sporting)

The Best Progress Award is awarded to a member club, which has shown great progress in European Club Competition in a given season compared to its performance in the previous season.

2011: SC Braga (POR)
2010: FC Unirea Urziceni (ROM)


Best Achievement (non-sporting)

The Best Achievement Award is awarded to a member club realising a major non-sporting achievement, which...

  • has been carried out by the club management;
  • relates to an issue/matter of actuality;
  • has an impact on the club legacy.


2011: FK Baku (AZE) - for the development of a new youth academy.
2010: FC Porto (POR) - for their eco-friendly stadium 'Estádio do Dragăo'.


Best Community & Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme

The Best CSR Programme Award is awarded to a member club with a club-driven CSR project, which...

  • aims at supporting/helping the local community by facing/tackling specific regional problems/issues;
  • is clearly more a project than an event, showing continuity and sustainability;
  • shows positive results benefiting the local community where the club has its roots;
  • can serve as best practice for all ECA Member Clubs (regardless of club size and CSR budget).


2011: Celtic FC (SCO) - for their CSR Programme 'Ability Counts'.
2010: Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC (ISR) - for their Education & Social Project 'Mifalot'.
